A vintage quilt on a sunny afternoon
August 28, 2011 | Category: kids
I use this quilt very sparingly as I am kind of paranoid about it getting ruined accidentally. It was made by my father in law’s late mother and I’m told it took her many, many hours of patience and dedication.
So, what do you do when you have a gorgeous old yoyo quilt just begging to be photographed some more?
You can sit on it.

You can lay down and look up at the sky (or your Mama).

You can use it as a cape.

You can wrap yourself up and keep warm (it is still winter for a few more days, after all).

But best of all, you can hide and giggle with your little sister.

I never understood the appeal of the yo-yo quilt (I mean all those gaps are sure to let the warmth out!). That was until I spent shift after shift helping a sweet grandmother finish off yo-yo quilts for each her grandchildren. Her time on earth was limited but her dedication to passing the joy of a grandma-made onto her littles was bondless. I was honoured to be part of the process and have yearned to make my very own yo-yo quilt ever since. Thank you for this beautiful reminder
I don’t quilt (well, apart from a few raggy quits I’ve made), but I can see how much time and devotion went into this plus it’s pretty big for a quilt! Must have taken her forever. I am so grateful it was given to me.
so sweet!! Love how your kids seem to be having such fun when you photograph them. They are all beautiful! I can’t believe how much your 2 younger girls look alike! Oh, and, LOVE the quilt!
Love these….
LOVE this shoot! Those quilts are precious heirlooms. I have yet to get my hands on one…but my mom has several of her grandmothers. Sweet, sweet photos!!!!
