Hi Amanda, I bought your book and I love it! Will there be a book for stork pouches and cocoons? :D

Anyways, I have been knitting a few hats out of the book, and they all come out way to big for a newborn. What am I doing wrong? If I cast on less than suggested it won’t make it around the circular needle. Is 16″ too long? Is there anything smaller than that?

Mysmaken – What size needle are you using (size 7, size 9? etc). Are you knitting the smallest size? Are you getting gauge? If everything is fine and you still think they are too big, then go down a needle size and use the smallest size of the pattern. I use a 30cm (not sure what that is in inches) circular for the smallest size because otherwise on a 16″ the stitches get too tight. You can use double pointed needles as well.

Thanks Amanda! I use size 9, and I haven’t really figured out that whole gauge thing, hehe. But it feels like the diameter of the 12″ (30 cm) is still too big…
When I cast on 48 stiches it’s too big, but if I try with 40 instead, there aren’t enough to get around the circular needle.
Maybe I have to go with 4 double pointed needles, but the circular is just so easy to work with :)

My little one is 5 months old- this is him when he was a similar age to this pup.
